Welcome to the Mexia Independent School District. We are glad that you have taken the time to visit our website and hope that you like what you see here and will take the time to come visit us in person. This year the Mexia Independent School District is embracing the last line of our school song as our theme. As a district we are facing challenging times as we struggle with the problems of school finance, declining enrollment and misinformation about the education of residents of our community’s state supported living center. For these unfortunate reasons and many others, some of our own have decided to leave the district. But others have chosen to stay, and others have joined with us to defend the rights of all our students to receive the best education possible. We must unite as a staff, as family members and as a community to defend the crimson and the black.
If our schools are not successful, it will be difficult to attract businesses and families to our community. If Mexia is to grow and prosper the community must make sure that its schools are the best they can be. Together, we must commit to achieving this level of greatness.
There must be pride in our community and our schools. If you desire to show your pride, a very small gesture would be simply letting everyone know that you are a defender of the crimson and the black, a supporter of Mexia ISD students and of the city of Mexia. Over the next few weeks we will be working to develop ways for you to show that you are a defender of the crimson and the black. We would also like to hear from you on your ideas about how we can build that pride in Mexia! If you have ideas or suggestions on how we can do this please contact John Turpin, Interim Superintendent, at 254-562-4000 or email me at jturpin@mexia.k12.tx.us to share them.
Together we can all be defenders of “the CRIMSON and the BLACK”!

Revised 2010-2011 School Calendar
NEWS RELEASE- Mexia, TX
June 22, 2010
On June 21, 2010 the Mexia ISD Board of Trustees adopted a revised 2010-2011 school calendar. This calendar is slightly different from the previously adopted calendar. There are four areas that are different. The first is the addition of flex days to the calendar. Flex days will be instructional days for students that have not met certain criteria such as meeting state standards on all parts of the state assessments (TAKS) and meeting local promotion/credit requirements. Students that have met the criteria will not be required to attend school on flex days. The second area that will be different is the date of graduation. Graduation will be on May 20, 2011 at Blackcat Field. The third is that the district will not hold classes on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011 provided we do not miss any instructional days due to bad weather. The fourth and final change is that June 4, 2011 will be a teacher workday.
You can view the revised calendar and flex days criteria on our website, www.mexia.k12.tx.us or you can stop by district administration offices at 616 N. Red River and we will provide you with a copy of the calendar and flex day criteria. We hope that this information will help your family as you plan for the next school year. If you have any questions about these changes please contact your child’s building principal or you can always contact the Mexia ISD Administration Offices at 562-4000.
